The 10th Founders/Thanksgiving & Prize giving day celebration was held on Saturday 12th November 2016 at the Adelaide Multi-Purpose Hall.
The colourful event brought together the Managing Director, Chief Mrs. V.O.R. Diete-Spiff, the Executive Director, Princess Elfrida Omole, Mr. Robert Omole; the Special Guest of Honour, Justice Eberechi Nyesom Wike, wife of the Governor of Rivers State, ably represented by Mr. Oraye St. Franklyn, the Senior Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on New Media; the Guest Minister, Reverend Dr. Chris Oarhe and his wife; the Guest Speaker, Professor Jerry Orhue, Head Teacher of Bereton Montessori Nursery and Primary School Stadium Road and Ernest Ikoli, Mr. John Trowel and Mr. Cletus Amaechi, Esteemed parents, distinguished guests and friends of the school, with the ultimate aim of celebrating the achievements of the school.
The Managing Director appreciated God for his mercies in the last ten years. She took time to recount the glorious achievements of the school which included winning laurels in external examinations.
In his opening remarks, the Principal lauded the efforts of the Managing Director and the Executive Director in making CDMIS the pride of Africa. He also encouraged parents to appreciate the school’s efforts at ensuring and promoting excellence in the teaching and learning process.
In his ministration which centered on Generation Blessings, Reverend Dr. Chris Oarhe, used the occasion to urge students to imbibe the teachings and the virtues of God, adding that “it is only when this is done that the nation will be crisis-free.
Chief (Dr.) MSD Bob-Manuel, in his testimony about the school, appreciated the Managing Director and the Executive Director for their devotion in serving the nation and urged them not to relent in their pursuit of excellence. Other former and present Parents also gave glowing tributes about the school.
The Guest Speaker, Professor Jerry Orhue made his speech on the topic: “Integrity: A Tool for Sustaining Excellence’. He charged the students to explore their talents as he used his personal experiences in academics to challenge them. He encouraged the students to always make notes when they study as the hand and brain work together. He stressed the need for students to imbibe the habit of voracious reading at an early stage of their life, saying, “Challenge yourself to be better students and inspire yourself to be much more than you are”.
Against this backdrop, the students added a touch of excellence to the programme as they performed William Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice”. The students, dressed in rich costumes, thrilled the Special Guests and parents with an excellent display of poetic language and actions that characterize Shakespearian plays. Quite inspiring was the students’ mastery and command of Shakespearian English which characterized the Elizabethan age.
The students also displayed their act in music and dance as they performed Josh Groban’s ‘Mystery of your gift’.
The highpoint of the school celebration was the conferment of Prestigious Merit Award to Chief (Mrs.) V.O.R. Diete-Spiff, The Yeye-Ilu of Lagos by the National Association of Oduduwa Students (NAOS) in recognition of her immense contribution to the development of education in Nigeria.
The Management in reciprocating the effort of her staff, gave out valuable gifts and cash awards to long serving Staff members.
It was indeed a great celebration.
